I fought him on it for a solid 15 minutes because it was a $3,200 job for a farmer out of Hastings and I didn't want to eat a comeback on it. He set every gap right the first time and finished in 40 minutes, so now I'm wondering what else I've been hogging that he could handle.
Think about how bad this can blow up on you though. One good valve lash job on an engine he's probably done a hundred times in school doesn't mean he's ready for bigger stuff. Cummins 12V lash is about as simple as it gets, feeler gauge and a torque wrench, a monkey could do it. You hand him a job with real money on it and he misses something, now you're the one who let him touch it and the farmer wants you to make it right either way. There's a reason you fought him for 15 minutes, your gut was telling you something. Get a few more of these under his belt with you watching before you start farming out the whole shop.
