Appreciation post: Remembering the struggle with layer masks

I was cleaning up some old PSD files from 2015 and got hit with nostalgia for when I first tried to master clipping masks... I spent a solid three hours trying to get a photo to fit inside a custom text shape for a client piece, just not grasping the 'alt-click' trick. Anyone else have a basic tool that took you forever to finally click with?

Oh man, the pen tool was my own personal nightmare for ages.

Ugh same! I spent like a whole week just trying to make a simple curved line and it kept doing that weird spike thing. Felt like throwing my mouse across the room.

My pen tool skills are so bad I could make a straight line look like a toddler drew it.
