Hit my first 1000 followers on ArtStation today, totally unexpected
Started posting my character concept sketches back in March and somehow hit quadruple digits this morning. That's 1000 people who actually want to see my stuff, feels wild. Did you guys notice a big jump when you switched up your hashtags or was it just slow and steady growth?
Congrats on the milestone, but 1000 followers isn't exactly going to pay the bills or mean you've "made it". Most of those accounts are probably other artists just following for follows. I've seen people obsess over numbers then realize half their followers are bots or people who never interact. Growth is just a vanity metric unless you're actually getting commissions or jobs out of it.
What is it about hitting 1000 followers that makes you feel like you've achieved something, only to realize you're just the mayor of Followville with a population of bots and mutuals? I hit that milestone last month and my biggest commission was a drawing of someone's cat, so yeah, reality check.
