Shoutout to my old art teacher for pushing me on color theory
Honestly, I used to think color theory was just boring rules that didn't matter for digital art. My teacher, Mrs. Chen, kept telling me to use a limited palette of 5 colors max for my character designs. I ignored her for years, making super saturated pieces with like 20 colors. Finally tried her advice on a project last month, and the piece looked way more cohesive and professional. Now I'm torn, because part of me still loves throwing every color in the toolbox at a canvas. Has anyone else had a 'boring' art rule turn out to be totally right?

Felt the same way about composition rules being pointless restrictions. Then I tried the rule of thirds for some landscape photos and it just clicked. Sometimes the boring stuff works because it's been figured out already.

Rules are made to be broken, honestly.

Read a quote once that said you have to know the rules before you can break them well. Makes sense for stuff like photography or writing.
