The shift I've noticed in digital art showcase submissions over the last year
I've been watching the monthly showcases here for about 14 months now, and it seems like the big shift went from heavily rendered fantasy scenes to these minimalist, almost line-art pieces with muted colors. Do you think it's driven by social media algorithms favoring simpler styles (like on Instagram or TikTok), or is it more about artists getting burnt out on hyper-detailed work? I'm curious which side you all lean toward.

oh man, i totally know what you mean. i've been lurking on these showcases for about the same amount of time and it's wild how fast the style flipped. idk if it's burnout exactly but i feel like a lot of artists are just going with what gets the most likes on tiktok, you know? like i saw this one artist who used to do these super detailed dragons and now they're just posting these little doodle-style cats with one color and it's getting way more traction. maybe it's just me but it kinda feels like the simpler stuff pops off faster because it's easier to see on a phone screen.

easier to see on a phone screen" - that's probably half of it honestly. kinda funny how all those detailed dragons got replaced by little single-color cats and nobody even blinked.
