Unpopular opinion: Expo hall chaos beats keynote speeches every time

I was at the MarTech conference in Chicago last month and the keynotes were all the same recycled case studies. But the expo hall, where I actually watched vendors demo their A/B testing live, that's where I learned more in 2 hours than the whole first day. Why do we keep paying thousands for the main stage when the real strategy talk happens in the aisles? Anyone else skipping the sessions next year?

That hits hard. Been to enough of these events to know the main stage is mostly for show, and the real meat is always in the aisles where people actually answer your questions. Last year at a sales conference I spent the whole morning talking to a vendor about their churn data, and learned more than any of the breakout sessions combined. It’s a weird thing, but the casual conversations with people who have their hands on the tools beat polished slides every time. The ticket price is basically paying for the hallway access at this point. I’m honestly thinking about just buying an expo pass next year and skipping the full ticket altogether.
