Got my gear stolen in Medellin and it forced a total workflow rethink

Had my main laptop and backup drive taken from a cafe last month, which meant rebuilding everything from cloud scraps. Has anyone else had to bounce back from losing all their local files while working abroad?

Honestly, my buddy lost his passport and laptop in one go, which was a whole other level of panic.

Man, that's rough. I've been there too, but I came out the other side with a totally different take. Relying on the cloud scraps sounds like a nightmare waiting to happen again. My rule now is physical backups that never leave my person, like a tiny encrypted drive on my keyring. I'll sync to the cloud, but I don't trust it as the only source. The internet is just not reliable enough in a lot of places to make that your main plan.

Totally agree with you @riley_west. I read an article about how even big cloud services have outages and people lose access. Your keyring idea is smart.
