My uncle told me to always use a torque wrench on spark plugs, even on a basic four cylinder.

I was rushing a tune-up on a 2012 Civic last week and just went by feel. Ended up stripping the threads in the aluminum head. Cost me $400 for a time-sert kit and a whole afternoon. How many of you actually torque every single plug, or is that overkill for small jobs?

Remembering a bad day on the Kuskokwim River when the winch cable snapped

We were pulling the spud on our old ladder dredge near Bethel, Alaska, and the cable just went with a crack you could hear over the engine. The whole rig lurched and we had to drop the anchor quick to keep from drifting into the bank. What's the best way you've found to check a cable for wear before it gets to that point?

Just compared using a Wacom Cintiq 16 versus my old Intuos tablet for detailed line work, and the difference is huge.

I've been using an Intuos Pro for years and thought it was fine. Last week, I borrowed a friend's Cintiq 16 to finish a comic panel with lots of fine hatching. Drawing directly on the screen cut my time on that one panel from about 90 minutes down to 40. The hand-eye coordination is just so much more natural for that kind of precision work. It feels less like moving a mouse and more like actual drawing. For anyone doing a lot of detailed illustration, is the jump to a screen tablet really that game-changing across the board, or are there types of art where a regular tablet still holds up?

Pro tip: I finally switched from a basic oscillating sprinkler to a soaker hose for my raised beds

The sprinkler was wasting so much water, especially in the afternoon sun, and my lettuce in the back row was always dry. I put in a 50 foot soaker hose from the brand Gilmour last month, and the water use dropped by about a third. Is the initial setup for drip or soaker systems really worth it over just setting out a sprinkler and forgetting it?
