Seeing someone respected get torn apart over a past comment has me doubting the whole cancel culture thing.

Yeah but if they said something really messed up, it wasn't just 'dumb'. A comment from years ago can show who they really were, and maybe still are. People in power need to be held to a higher standard, lol. Letting it slide just because they're respected now means nobody ever has to answer for anything.
