My grandma's loading method from 1985 finally clicked for me
Last week I was unloading and realized I'd been doing the whole 'facing all forks down' thing my grandma swore by, but never actually understood why until I pulled out a bowl with a crusted-on lip. She always said the angle matters more than the direction, and now I see it. Anyone else have a family trick that took you decades to actually get?

Trust the old ladies, they got the reps in. Took me a solid fifteen years of loading boxes to see her point about the leverage. Now I adjust the angle on everything, makes the whole job smoother.

Man, YES. @vera308 hit it perfectly with the reps thing. It took me forever to realize my mom wasn't just being stubborn about how she stacked the dishwasher, she had literally broken enough glasses to know exactly where the water hits. Once I started paying attention to the spray arm instead of just copying her moves, everything changed. Now I catch myself tilting bowls slightly, even when they're not that dirty, because it just makes sense. It's like you have to live through the mess to understand the method, you know? The old ladies aren't guessing, they're just way ahead of us on the trial and error curve.
