My mom called me out on spoon placement last Sunday

I was loading the dishwasher after family dinner and my mom just goes 'you know those spoons are gonna nest together and stay dirty, right?' I looked down and sure enough I had tossed all the spoons in a pile facing the same way. She showed me how to alternate half facing up half facing down so water actually hits them all. I've been doing this for 3 years at my own apartment and never even thought about it. Has anyone else had a family member call them out on some basic dishwasher loading habit?

Is it really that deep though? Like are we gonna stand there and inspect every spoon now? I just throw em all in however and they come out clean enough for me.

Honestly, I used to think the same way until I had to rewash a whole load of dishes because one spoon was facing the wrong way? Ngl, what @finleyf88 said is spot on, it's really just about saving yourself from extra work later. Tbh once you start doing it, it becomes a habit and takes zero extra time.

Wow, honestly I gotta push back on that a little bit. Tbh the spoon thing isn't about inspecting every single one, it's about not wanting to rewash half a load because a spoon touched something gross. Ngl I used to just toss them in however and then I'd pull out a plate with some dried on gunk that clearly came from a spoon nest. It's not about being extra, it's about not having to do extra work later. Plus, if you're already standing there loading the dishwasher, turning spoons the same way takes like two seconds. It's just basic efficiency, not a whole inspection process.
