Silverware basket rule I broke for 10 years, caught by a houseguest
So last weekend my cousin from Portland stayed over and watched me load the dishwasher. I always put knives pointing up because I thought it dried better. He just stood there and said 'you know those are gonna stab someone, right?' I laughed it off until I pulled out a cereal bowl and nicked my thumb on a butter knife tip. Ten years, man. I never got cut before but I guess it was bound to happen. Does anyone else still load utensils point up, or am I the only one living on borrowed time?

The stab thing is real but the drying argument is what gets me, because that was my whole reason too. Thing is, knives dry just fine pointing down if you don't cram them in there touching other stuff. The water runs off the blade either way, and the handle is the part that stays wet, which nobody cares about. So you're basically risking your fingers for zero gain. Ten years is a long streak though, kind of impressive you made it that far honestly.
