I finally saw what 8 months of ignoring a gutter leak does to drywall

Back in March I patched a small brown spot above my laundry room window and figured it was a one time thing. Then last weekend I went to swap out a shelf and the whole corner near the ceiling was spongy, like pressing on a wet cardboard box. Turns out the gutter joint had been dripping down the wall cavity the whole time, and the stud behind the drywall was rotting at the base. Tore out a 3 foot by 2 foot section and found black mold spreading along the bottom plate, nowhere near the original spot. Has anyone else dealt with hidden gutter water damage that showed up way later, and did you have to replace the studs too?
