Just tried to seal my own driveway and it's a total mess

So I watched a bunch of videos and figured sealing my asphalt driveway in Springfield would be a good weekend project. I bought two 5-gallon buckets of that blacktop sealer from the hardware store and got to work last Saturday. The weather was perfect, not too hot, and I cleaned the surface really well. But I guess I put the first coat on way too thick... it's been four days now and it's still tacky in big patches, especially in the shade. My shoes stick to it if I walk out to get the mail. The can said it would dry in 24-48 hours, but I think I messed up by not doing a super thin layer first. Now I'm worried I'll have to pressure wash this sticky gunk off and start over, which sounds awful. Has anyone else had this happen and found a way to fix it without a full redo?

Ngl, you basically painted your driveway with tar.

Oh man, my buddy did that once. He ended up renting a power washer and still left a black smudge for years.

Ever try to peel a giant sticker off the floor? That's your driveway now. You didn't seal it, you made a giant fly trap for your shoes. Four days and still sticky? Man, you might have invented a new kind of outdoor glue. Good luck getting that off without taking half the asphalt with it.
