My pressure washer's hose blew out right before a big job last Thursday

I found a local shop that had the exact 50-foot replacement hose in stock for $85, which saved the day. Anyone know a good way to prevent that from happening again, maybe a specific hose reel or something?

Oh man, that's the worst timing! I saw a tip online about always storing the hose loose in big loops, not kinked. The guy said even a good reel can put a tight bend in the same spot over and over, and that weakens it. Maybe just coil it on the ground in your garage? I also read you should run the pump for a minute after you're done to get the pressure out of the hose. Does that make sense, like relieving the stress on it?

That $85 replacement stings, but at least you got the job done. I keep a spare hose in my truck for exactly that reason, it's saved me more than once. What olivia_harris19 said about storing it loose is totally right, I ruined a hose by leaving it on the reel all winter with a kink. I also make a habit of pulling the trigger to bleed the pressure after I shut the machine off, seems to help the hose last longer.

Bleeding the pressure is smart. I learned that one the hard way when I took a hose off without doing it and got sprayed in the face with whatever was left in the line. Felt like a real genius that day. @the_james has the right idea keeping a spare in the truck. I usually just forget I need one until I'm already holding the broken piece in my hand and staring at it like it personally offended me. The loose loops thing is key too. I started doing that after I found a hose in my shed that looked like it had been tied in a knot by a spiteful ghost. Now I just coil it flat on the floor and it actually lasts longer than one season.
