Spent my whole Saturday fixing a leaky bathroom sink

I noticed a drip under the vanity last week and finally got to it. The old plastic P-trap was cracked, so I replaced it with a new metal one from the hardware store. It took me like two hours because I had to cut the old pipe and make sure the new seal was tight. Has anyone else had a plastic trap fail after a few years?

Did you check the sink drain flange while you were in there? Sometimes the gasket up top goes bad and the leak just runs down the pipe to the trap, making you think the trap is the problem.

Ugh, my buddy had that exact thing happen, @zara_kelly27.

That gasket thing is a solid point, but people forget the tailpiece itself can crack right where it meets the flange. You can have a perfect gasket up top and still get a slow drip from a hairline split in the metal. It hides behind the nut so you don't see it until you take everything apart. Always run your finger around the whole piece feeling for cracks or rough spots.
