That $200 dehumidifier I bought for my basement was a total flop

Picked up a fancy dehumidifier from the home center last spring to keep my basement dry, and it ran nonstop for 4 months before it just quit pulling any water out of the air. Tried cleaning the coils and filters every two weeks but it still turned into a paperweight. Anyone else find these things are built to fail after one season?

Did you try hitting it with a wrench and yelling at it like I did with mine? I swear these things are designed to self-destruct right after the warranty runs out, it's like they have a little timer inside that just says "done." My last one started making this weird grinding noise before it died, sounded like a coffee grinder full of rocks. I ended up just sticking a bucket under the leaky pipe in the corner and calling it a day, at least that doesn't cost me $200 every summer. Are you thinking about getting a different brand or just giving up on them altogether?
