Yep, same thing happened to my old Spotmatic.

Heard a guy on a podcast talk about buying one of those "leaked" maps back in like 2019 and it was the same deal, just a list of state parks and armories with scary labels added on. The tell is always the same too, once you pay the guy goes quiet or blocks you when you ask questions. Feels less like research and more like a hustle for people who already believe the thing.

Had a guy swear up and down my wheel bearing was shot when it turned out to be a rock stuck in the brake shield. Charged me nothing after he felt dumb about it, which was nice I guess. The funny part is these dudes are usually right about the CV joint, it clicks on turns like clockwork. Mine made a clunk over speed bumps which is a whole different animal, more like a sway bar link or a busted strut mount. So did he at least knock the price down or were you out the 50 bucks anyway?
