The contractor who told me to skip the moisture barrier, 2 years later

Back in 2021 a guy doing my basement said I didn't need a vapor barrier under the subfloor since it was 'dry enough' in Ohio. Two winters later I pulled up a corner of the carpet and found black mold spots spreading along the plywood. Has anyone else trusted a pro's shortcut and ended up ripping out way more than you planned?

Man that sucks, I feel for you. I've seen the same thing happen to a buddy of mine down in Cincinnati with his crawl space, the guy told him it was fine and six months later the joists were starting to rot. The worst part is you think you're saving money by trusting the expert, then you end up paying double to fix the damage they caused. Hopefully you caught it before it got into the framing too bad, that mold spreads fast once it gets a foothold.
