Update: Picked a 0.3mm mechanical pencil over a 0.5mm for a big site plan
I was starting a new subdivision layout last week and got stuck on which lead size to use for the main linework. It was between my usual 0.5mm and a finer 0.3mm. I went with the 0.3mm, thinking it would give cleaner lines for the tight property boundaries. Honestly, it was a pain at first because the lead broke like three times in the first hour. But once I got a lighter touch, the detail was way better, especially on the utility callouts. Has anyone else switched to a thinner lead for large-scale plans and found it worth the hassle?

My old 0.5mm Pentel feels like a crayon now. Stuck with 0.3mm for a year and the precision is just unbeatable for tight spots.

Wait till you try a 0.2mm for tiny details.

My old 0.7mm felt like a butter knife after I tried a 0.3mm for the first time, I swear. For a year I thought anything smaller than 0.5mm was just flexing on forums, but then I picked up a cheap 0.3mm for some cross-hatching on a dark area and it changed everything. The control is just insane, especially for tiny eyelashes or little textures that need to look natural. Idk, maybe it's just me but the 0.2mm sounds almost too fragile, like one wrong move and it's bent forever.
