That "weird noise" thing is spot on. It's the same logic as fixing a tiny roof leak before your ceiling caves in, or getting a weird mole checked early. Most big disasters give you little whispers first. Ignoring them because the project still mostly works is how you end up with a total tear down. Paying attention to those whispers saves way more than just time, it saves your sanity.
