That expensive tape measure I bought was actually worth it

I spent $40 on a FatMax tape measure last year and thought it was a total rip off until I dropped it off a 12 foot scaffold and it still worked perfectly. Has anyone else found a piece of gear that seemed overpriced but ended up saving you time?

Oh man, a FatMax is more like $30, not $40, but yeah they're tanks. Dropped mine off a ladder into mud once and it still clicks perfect.

But I have to push back on that a little, @black.pat. I had a FatMax that stopped locking properly after a couple of years of daily use, and I wasn't even dropping it in mud. For the price they charge now, I'd expect them to hold up a bit better than a $15 Stanley that did the same job for twice as long.
