Debate: Took 4 hours to find a hidden junction box behind drywall in a remodel - should I have just cut it out sooner?

Cutting it out sooner would've saved you the 4-hour treasure hunt, but at least you got a full tour of your wall's skeleton. My record's 3 hours on a "quick" access panel install where I found an old candy wrapper and a drywall screw that'd been waiting for me since 1999. Sounds like you earned yourself a solid facepalm and a cold drink.

I mean, I kinda see the treasure hunt as part of the fun though. Finding old stuff in the walls is like a little time capsule, way more interesting than just getting it done fast. Maybe it's just me but sometimes the journey is better than the shortcut.
