Had a weird one with a vintage radio from a garage sale in Phoenix

Picked up a 1960s tube radio last week that would only hum, no sound at all. Checked the tubes with my B&K 700 tester and they were fine, so I started tracing the audio path. Found a tiny paper capacitor, labeled .047uF, that looked perfect but was actually shorted inside. Replaced it with a new orange drop cap and the thing came to life. Anyone else run into parts that look okay but are totally dead inside?

My old Honda Civic taught me this lesson. It would crank but not start, and the fuel pump relay looked brand new. The internal solder joints had cracked, making it completely useless. So much stuff fails in ways you just can't see.

Yeah, those cracked solder joints are a real pain to find.
