Found a trick for silent door reopening sensors on Otis Gen2

We had this issue where the door sensors on an Otis Gen2 at the 3rd Street Mall kept failing the weekly test. I tried cleaning the lenses and checking voltage like the manual says. Then I noticed the reflector tape was misaligned by just a few millimeters. Peeled it off and reinstalled it straight with a fresh piece of 3M tape and it passed every test for 2 months now. Has anyone else had this problem with the alignment being that touchy?

Honestly, I used to think those Gen2 sensors were just junk and would always blame the board or the controller when they'd fail a test. But this makes total sense now, I've seen that tape get bumped during routine PMs and never thought it could be that picky about the alignment. Tbh, I was always the guy who'd throw a new sensor at it or recheck the wiring before ever looking at the reflector tape itself. Ngl, next time I'm out there I'm gonna bring a fresh roll of 3M tape and a straight edge to check that alignment before I call it a bad sensor. Good catch, this is one of those little things that saves a ton of headache.

Yeah I started bringing a small level with me after that happened twice in one week.
