I finally broke down and bought the $450 digital governor tester
For years I thought it was a waste of cash, just another fancy box to lug around. I was convinced my old analog meter and a steady hand were good enough for checking overspeed trips. Then I got called to a 15-story office building downtown where the governor was acting up. My meter said it was fine, but the car kept tripping. After two hours of head scratching, the building engineer let me borrow his digital tester. Plugged it in, ran the simulation, and it showed a tiny, intermittent spike in the overspeed circuit my gear completely missed. That spike was the whole problem. I ordered one the next day. It's saved me so much time on weird intermittent faults. Anyone have a favorite brand or model they swear by?

Ever have that one tool you fought buying for way too long? I was the same with a laser alignment tool, thought it was just for show. Then a simple job took all day without it, and I caved the next morning. Never looked back.

Glad I'm not alone on that one, @lindamartin.

Oh man, @stella_murray, I was the same way about a stud finder.
