That Tuesday in March at the old Hilton in Cleveland - everything fell apart

Got a call for a stuck car on floor 12. Old Otis from the 80s. Got there, found the door locks were seized, brake shoes welded to the rail. Took me and my partner 6 hours to get it freed up. Then the hydro unit on the freight started leaking like crazy. Just one of those days where nothing goes right. Anyone else have a shift where every call is a nightmare?

Sounds like the universe was just telling you to switch careers that day. At least you didn't get locked inside the elevator with the leaking hydro unit.

Scott, your "universe was just telling you to switch careers" line actually hits different now. I used to think that stuff was just superstition or bad luck (you know, like when you blame the "Friday curse" on maintenance). But after my own nightmare shift last spring - three stuck doors in four hours, then the AC unit fell off the roof - I started paying attention. The universe might not be that organized, but patterns are patterns. Sometimes a day is just a pile of garbage and you gotta decide if you're sticking around to shovel it.
