I saw a neighbor's kid get a 'smart' toy for his birthday that records everything he says. That's messed up.

I mean, I used to think it was just a toy, no big deal. But then I read about how that data gets stored, and who might buy it. It's not just the company listening. That recording of your kid saying their full name and address could end up anywhere. It made me realize we're just handing over their whole childhood to some server.

Remember that story last year about a voice recording from a smart speaker being used in a murder case. That was an adult, but it shows the data doesn't just sit there. Now imagine twenty years from now, some company has a voiceprint of my kid from age three, and they use it for who knows what. We're building their digital footprints before they can even walk, and they never agreed to it. The worst part is we can't ever take that data back once it's out there.

Honestly, my sister got one of those for her kid and it's creepy. I was over there and it just lit up and started talking out of nowhere, nobody even touched it. Tbh that thing is basically a spy toy that also sings the alphabet. Makes you wonder who's really listening to all those bedtime stories.
