Lady at the feed store told me I was ruining her horse's feet
She watched me trim for two minutes then started yelling about my hoof angle. Said I took off too much heel. This was in Amarillo last Tuesday. Her horse had flares on both fronts though. Has anyone else had a client try to micro-manage mid-trim?

...and the thing is, folks always think it's about the angle from the front or side but nobody talks about the collateral grooves and how deep they are. I had a mare once where the farrier kept taking off way too much heel because he was chasing a visual angle but the grooves told a totally different story about where her sole actually was. You gotta remember the live sole plane changes with every single trim and that old school "make it look pretty" approach just doesn't work for every foot. That lady yelling at you might have been stuck in some outdated method she learned twenty years ago in a clinic somewhere.

Used to be all about the visual angles myself until I saw a hoof map tell a completely different story.

Nobody ever talks about what the horse was doing with its back feet while she was yelling.
