My neighbor's hand-modified jacket is making me rethink fashion utility

Last Thursday, I was walking my dog and saw my neighbor in a denim jacket they changed themselves. They sewed on extra pockets with zippers and added patches from old band t-shirts. What really stood out was a small loop on the sleeve for hanging keys, which is super handy. It got me thinking about how clothes can be both stylish and useful for everyday stuff. I tried to add a pocket to an old coat of mine last month, and honestly, it was a lot trickier than it looks. Seeing their jacket has made me want to give it another go. I've been noticing more people at the local shops with similar DIY touches on their gear. This shift towards making fashion work harder feels like a big deal for design ideas.

Totally get that, my old canvas jacket has a pencil holder I stitched inside the pocket that's saved me so many times. I used a bit of an old shoelace to make the loop. It's messy but I love that it's exactly what I needed. Seeing other people's fixes is the best way to get new ideas.

Internal mods, like @sarah_perry's holder, are the next level for hidden utility.

Guess we're all just stitching random junk inside our clothes now.
