Watched a crew in Austin switch from string lines to a laser level for a 200 foot run

They went from a full day of setting posts to finishing the line in under three hours, and the whole fence was dead straight. The boss said the laser paid for itself on that one job alone. So who else has made the jump and what brand did you pick?

Man, I used to think lasers were just a pricey gimmick. Watching a crew lay out a foundation line in half the time shut me right up. Sometimes the new tool is just the right tool.

Honestly, it's like watching someone discover fire. My old crew would still be out there squinting at a string, arguing if it's sagging or if Bob's just had too much coffee. The laser just... settles it. No debate, just a little red dot telling you the cold, hard truth. Kind of takes the fun out of the afternoon yelling match, though.

Wow, I was totally in the "it's just a string" camp too. Then I saw a guy set grade for a long patio slab in minutes, not hours. @uma_johnson is right, it just ends the argument. That little dot doesn't care about your opinion, it's just right.
