Redoing my kitchen floor showed me jarred pasta sauce is overrated

So I was installing some new vinyl plank in my kitchen last week and had to empty out all the lower cabinets. I pulled out a bunch of jarred pasta sauces I had stocked up on during a sale. I used to grab them thinking they were a quick fix for busy nights, but honestly, they all taste kind of bland and way too sweet to me now. It hit me that these get way too much praise just for being convenient when the flavor isn't really there. After this project, I'm all for just making a simple sauce from canned tomatoes and garlic, it's not that much harder. Clearing out that space made me realize how much better fresh basics are compared to the pre-made stuff. Maybe spending days on the floor makes you notice details more, but I think jarred sauce is totally overhyped.

Forgot how much cabinet space you waste on mediocre sauce until you purge it all.

Your take on jarred sauce being overrated feels so true. I've switched to making my own and it's way better.

When you said they all taste bland and sweet, that's probably just the common grocery store kinds. I've tried a few from smaller brands that keep it simple with tomatoes and herbs, so they're not all bad.
