A pollution film made me rethink farmed salmon

I always bought farmed salmon because it cost less. The film showed how these farms hurt ocean life. Now I struggle between saving money and doing the right thing when I shop for fish.

What gets me is how that pollution hits coastal towns. Those salmon farms can cause algae blooms that wipe out local scallop or oyster beds. So a cheap salmon fillet might actually wreck another fisherman's job down the coast. That hidden cost gets passed to people who had nothing to do with the farm. Makes the price tag feel pretty different.

Our local fishermen lost income to those algae blooms, just like @tyler6 said.

Remember my buddy's clam boat sitting idle for weeks. He almost lost his lease over one bad bloom.
