My 'good enough' contract template blew up in my face last month

A client from a few years back came back with a new project, and I used my old, vague agreement. They ended up disputing the final payment over scope creep I didn't define. I had to eat about $1200 to avoid a bigger fight. What's your go-to contract clause for preventing scope arguments?

Define scope in a numbered list of deliverables.

Scope is just a fancy word for the list of stuff you actually have to do. Perry.phoenix, I'd keep it to like five bullet points max or it gets messy. More than that and you're just asking for scope creep.

But what's the actual project, @perry.phoenix? A list is useless if it's not tied to a clear goal. You could list ten things and still miss the point.
