How many times did you have to stab it before it finally gave up? My old blender would just sit there and smoke if I tried to crush ice. I ended up having to pulse it in tiny bursts and add a splash of liquid to get things moving. Maybe try that next time before you declare war on your kitchen gadget.

Try starting with a little liquid in the blender jar. It lets the blades grip the ice instead of skipping over it. I know from bartending that pulsing is key for frozen drinks. Use short bursts until the ice is crushed, then let it run. Overloading the blender is the quickest way to kill it. Take your time and you'll save the motor.
