My dad's paper tax rebellion ended with a direct deposit
For my entire life, my father mailed in thick paper tax forms every April, calling it the only honest way. I found it maddening watching him stress over post office lines and lost checks. This year, I finally got him to try the government's free online filing site. He muttered about young people and their screens the whole time, but we clicked through together. When his refund showed up in his account a week later, he actually looked impressed. He hasn't fully converted, but he didn't buy extra stamps this time, so I'll take it.

Remember trying to get my aunt to use a debit card. She'd only use cash for years, said the bank was stealing her money with fees. Showed her the statement online once and she went quiet.

My mom kept every receipt in a shoebox for 40 years (no joke). Getting her to just take a picture of them with the tax app was a two-year war, but the day her refund hit early she finally stopped arguing.

Getting older folks to trust new ways is such a common battle. @william_carter, glad the refund finally convinced her.
