Noticed my grocery store tomatoes last forever now, kinda creepy
Picking up produce for lunch, I grabbed tomatoes that stayed firm for weeks. They must be genetically tweaked to not rot, but it makes me question what we're eating. Sure, less waste is good, but at what cost to real food? We're changing plants so much, they don't even behave like plants anymore. Just a weird shift that nobody talks about.

Actually those long lasting tomatoes are usually from old fashioned selective breeding, not genetic modification. Varieties like the Longkeeper tomato were bred over a century ago for thick skin and slow ripening. The trade off is they often lack the flavor of a backyard heirloom. Makes you wonder why we picked durability over taste, right?

Longkeeper tomatoes taste fine, no need to overthink it.

Yeah, we've basically turned tomatoes into those little plastic food toys for kids. They look the part but the whole point is gone. Guess we're all just playing house now.
