My creek bed find had me stumped for weeks
I was out walking along the local creek after a big rain, and I spotted this chunk of rock that looked totally out of place. It was smooth and gray, with these odd red lines running through it like little veins. I brought it home and tried to look it up, but my old rock guide book was no help. After flipping through pages and checking online forums, I still had no clue what it could be. Then I dug out a magnifying glass my dad gave me and saw tiny crystal shapes in the red parts. That was the hint I needed to figure out it's rhyolite with iron oxide stains. Felt like a real win to finally solve that puzzle on my own. Now I'm curious if anyone else has seen similar stuff around here.

Hey that's a super cool find! I was reading about the old quarry near Maple Ridge last week, and they mentioned a lot of the rhyolite up there gets those same red iron stains from groundwater. It's wild how much of that stuff is just sitting around in plain sight once you know what to look for.
