Earlier dinners helped my stomach feel lighter at night

I used to eat right before bed and wake up feeling bloated. Shifting my last meal to two hours earlier let me sleep without discomfort. What time do you usually stop eating to help your digestion?

Try to stop by 8 but usually fail.

Why is 8 the magic number anyway? Maybe failing to stop by then just means you're not a robot on a schedule. Pushing hard against your own rhythm can make things worse, not better. What if giving yourself some slack actually helps in the long run? Hitting a strict deadline every night might not even be the right goal for you.

Saw a podcast clip with a sleep researcher who said the whole "stop by 8" thing is mostly about winding down, not the clock itself. She gave the example of someone who finishes work at 9 but reads fiction for 30 minutes and sleeps fine, versus someone off screens at 8 but still stressed and lying awake. The goal is calming your mind, not hitting a random time. Your rhythm might need a different cutoff, or maybe a slower wind-down that starts earlier but doesn't mean you're done for the day right at eight.
