Ceramic planter drainage mess on my back porch

I was setting up some handmade ceramic pots for my porch plants and only put one small hole in each. After a few days of rain, the soil was totally soaked and my plants looked awful. I had to quickly drill more holes without breaking the pots, which was pretty stressful. I mean, idk why I thought one hole was enough. How do you all handle drainage for your outdoor ceramic pieces?

Try putting a layer of gravel underneath the pots.

One hole is like hoping a screen door will hold back a flood. Drilling more was your only way out of that swamp.

Drilling five holes instead of one makes sense for heavy soil. But @jackson.victor, doesn't gravel just move the swamp to the bottom of the pot? How do you stop water from pooling in the gravel layer?
