Watched a gallery in Seattle switch from human-curated to AI-generated exhibits overnight.

The owner told me 'it's just cheaper' while a painter I know was packing up her work, and now I can't decide if this is progress or theft.

Oh sure, it's progress all right. Progress straight to a world where the only job left is telling an AI to 'make art, but sad and for a latte'. The painter packing up is the real exhibit now, a piece called 'Replaced'. Super cheap to run, I guess.

Replaced" is a good name for it. Saw a guy on the street last week doing charcoal portraits for cash. Just him and a folding stool. Took him twenty minutes to get a face right. Kids walked by showing each other AI pics on their phones, laughing. He just kept shading the eyes, real slow. Felt like watching a clock tick down.

It's not progress if it just erases people.
