Update: I used to defend AI art until my cousin's gallery opening

I spent $200 on prints from an AI generator last month and hung them up proud. Then my cousin, a working painter, showed me how every piece stole from real artists' brushstrokes and compositions. Has anyone else had to eat crow like this after digging into where their AI content actually comes from?

My buddy actually went through the same thing with his vintage print collection. He spent like $400 on those AI generated nature scenes with the swirly colors, real proud of them. Then his art teacher friend pointed out the exact Van Gogh and Hokusai pieces the AI lifted the swirls and wave patterns from. He took them all down the next weekend and glued them to cardboard for a garage sale, sold them for 50 cents each.

Call bullshit - all art steals from something, at least AI's honest about it lol.
