I was struggling to get my AI image generator to make a simple red apple look right, but adding 'matte finish, studio lighting' to the prompt finally fixed the weird plastic shine.

After three frustrating attempts, I realized the AI kept defaulting to a glossy, fake-looking texture until I specified those exact lighting and surface details in the prompt.

Sounds like you're just training it to be picky. The weird glossy look is more interesting anyway, it's got character.

Trying to describe a basic apple to an AI feels like explaining color to a robot. You end up writing a whole essay about light sources and surface texture just to avoid that weird, wet plastic look. leelewis is right, that glossy default makes everything look like a bad video game asset from 2005. My last attempt gave me an apple so shiny it looked like it was dipped in motor oil, not something you'd actually eat.

Nah, that glossy look just screams cheap 3D render to me. Getting it right is the whole point.
