A talk with my dad about old wiring made me see things new

My grandpa said the same thing about old plumbing methods.

Changed my mind about using a certain type of joint compound on a big office job

Wait, you cut a full day? That's insane. I've been stuck on the 90-minute stuff forever because I was sure the fast set would dry weird or crack. You're saying the finish was exactly the same? Man, I need to try this next week.

Question about a new code rule I saw in a Chicago high rise

From what I've seen, the new rule usually only hits new construction and major rewires. Retrofits get a pass unless you're messing with that specific box. The bulk is the real headache, you're right about that. I've had to swap out old boxes just to fit the deeper AFCI before. The trigger is the building age, not the outlet height, which catches a lot of folks off guard.

I've been crimping my underwater comms connectors wrong for three whole years, and only realized it when a veteran diver in Morgan City asked why my voice kept cutting out.

You know what gets me, how many things have a secret extra step like that? I was putting together a garden hose quick-connect last summer and fought with leaks for a week. Turns out there's a little plastic clip you have to push in while you twist, something the diagram on the package totally missed. Makes you wonder what else we're all doing wrong without knowing, right? That's kind of what @margaret_kim13 was getting at with the manual stuff being easy to skip.

A guy at the Denver airport made me rethink the whole moon landing thing

Did you ask him about the actual flight path they used? They went around the worst parts of the belts pretty fast.
