A conversation with a warehouse manager in Tulsa flipped my view on redundant fiber lines
He told me their 99.9% uptime SLA still cost them $18,000 in lost orders last November because the single fiber cut at 2am and the backup DSL line took 40 minutes to kick in, so has anyone else actually tested their failover during a real outage, not just a simulation?
That "40 minutes to kick in" part is what gets me, cause even if the backup works it might as well not exist if it takes that long. Like what are you supposed to do at 2am, sit there and watch orders pile up? Feels like failover only counts if it switches over in seconds, not minutes.
