Waterborne primer ate through my masking tape last Tuesday

I switched to a new waterborne primer system on a 2019 F-150 in Dallas and figured my regular 3M fine line would hold up like it always did. Big mistake. That stuff wicked right under the tape edge and softened the base coat underneath before I even got to the clear. I spent 4 hours stripping down the fender and redoing the blend because I trusted the old solvent-based rules. Learned the hard way that waterborne products need dedicated tape, specifically the green high-tack stuff rated for them. Anyone else run into this after switching systems, or did I just get a bad batch from the supplier?

I read a thread on the collision repair forum where a guy from Phoenix said the same thing, his old 3M tape curled up like a dry leaf within ten minutes of spraying. The waterborne solvents just behave totally different, they flash off slower and eat into the adhesive way harder than solvent ever did. I bet your batch was fine, this is just the new normal with these systems.
