A GC's 2 minute phone call changed my whole laser layout system
Last month on a job in Austin, a general contractor I was working under watched me set up the rotary laser for ceiling grid layout. He just said, "you're doing this backwards, check the benchmark first." I had been pulling measurements from the slab edge because that's how I learned it, but he showed me the slab was off by almost 2 inches from the building's official survey point. Now I always cross-check against the rear corner benchmark before I even mount the tripod, and it's saved me from redoing an entire duct run. Has anyone else had a veteran flag a basic process that you'd been doing wrong for years?
check the benchmark first" and then it saved you from redoing a whole duct run? dang. that's wild that the slab was off by 2 inches and nobody caught it sooner. i mean, that one phone call probably paid for itself like ten times over.
