Picked frozen fries over homemade for the air fryer and I feel kinda bad about it
I had friends coming over Saturday night and I was deciding between hand cutting Yukon golds or just grabbing a bag of Ore-Ida from Kroger. I went with the frozen ones and tossed them in a little oil and salt at 400 for 18 minutes, shaking halfway, and they came out so crispy nobody knew the difference. My one buddy Jake asked for my recipe and I had to admit it was a bag. Does anyone else feel weird about that, or do you just own the frozen shortcut?
Why feel bad about it though? I did the same thing last month for a game night and just told everyone straight up they were frozen. My trick is to get the crinkle cut ones, the ridges hold so much more oil and seasoning. I let them thaw a bit on the counter first, like 10 minutes, then dry them off with a paper towel before they hit the basket. That one step makes a huge difference, they get way crispier than straight from the freezer. Jake probably would've done the same thing if he was hosting, nobody actually wants to stand there chopping potatoes when people are already over.
