I finally started carrying a backup power supply after a job in Tacoma
I was finishing up an install at a small business on 6th Ave when the main power went out for the whole block. The panel's battery was dead, so the whole system reset and I lost all my programming. Had to start over from scratch, which added two hours to the job. Now I always keep a charged 12V 7Ah battery in my truck to jump the panel during outages. Anyone else run into this, or have a better solution?

Yeah that's a solid move, the backup battery. I mean, maybe it's just me but I'd take it a step further and get one of those little portable power stations too. They're not that expensive now and you can run a laptop or a small light off it if you need to. Saves your truck battery from getting drained if you have to jump something for a while. Just seems like a good way to cover more bases without adding much extra stuff to carry.

Good call on the power station. I keep one in my truck bed, and it's saved me a few times when the jump pack wasn't the right tool.
