My shop is seeing more DIY alarm kit disasters lately
Honestly, last Tuesday a man came into my shop with a DIY alarm kit he got from a big store. Tbh, he had all the parts but couldn't figure out the sensor placement. Ngl, he had wires crossed and the control panel was beeping non stop. I spent two hours fixing his mess and showing him the basics. It got me thinking if this is a new trend in our area. More folks seem to want connected alarms but don't know how to set them up right. What's your take on this? Do you get many calls for help with store bought systems?

Definitely seeing more of this lately. People buy the fancy smart home kits but skip the learning curve entirely. It's just creating more headaches and wasted money.

Watch this spread to other tech like robot vacuums. People set them up once, never learn the scheduling features, and then complain about missed spots. It happens with those fancy coffee makers too, where they just use the basic brew instead of trying the grind settings. We end up with gadgets that do less than cheaper models because no one reads the manual. The box gets all the excitement, but the actual use gets ignored. It's a waste of good tools.

Why do we keep doing this with everything now... I see it with fancy cameras too where people just keep it on auto forever, or those meal kit boxes where the recipes never get opened. Feels like we're just paying for the idea of being good at something without putting in the actual time.
